Students will discuss the characters, gods, heroes or mythological figures or scenes in the Odyssey by:
- retelling the story or myth from the Odyssey

Sequence of Lesson Activities
The Teacher:
- The teacher will show the students the movie the Odyssey
- The teacher will explain the role of myth and Greek oral poetry as an art in ancient cultures as well as the medium for retelling the Odyssey
- The teacher will provide students with information on characters, plot and mythological elemenets in the Odyssey (Since this is an extended curriculum unit, studetsn have already been provided with this information).
The Student:
- Students will be assigned a character, god or hero from the Odyssey by drawing the 'sortes.'
- Students will also draw sortes for the order of their presentations
- Students will be given a brown sandwich bag
- Students must decorate the bag with representations of the myth of story they are telling
- Students should include 3 items in their bags that will help them tell their stories
- Students will also include a 3x5 index ard with major points as a reference tool (prior to today's class).
Students must give a 3 minute presentation of their stories using their props.
Teacher distributes an evaluation scale to the class with a rating scale of 1-10 for information, preparation, and interest.
Teacher explains that the 3 minute time limit is firm.
Homework:
Students must bring in 3 items and prepare their index cards as well as decorate their bags. Students will prepare their 3 minute presentations.

This is a two week assignment.
