The Republic

Education

Education is the key to the Republic. However, this education is very specific and does not admit variation. Certain people should be educated in certain subjects with a certain purpose in mind. This education is not the same as our liberal education in which students are allowed to explore various subjects. I enjoy talking to students about how they view their education in relation to the one delineated in the Republic. If they knew that they could receive political and social power by following a certain educational track, would they do so? Is there a certain educational route that leads to power in our society? What would it be?  What subjects are covered? Sometimes students and teachers take education for granted and do not examine it critically. Examine the education offered in the Republic critically and encourage your students to do the same with their own education.
