The Romans adopted their sense of the theater from the Greeks, and used similar structures as well. A theater would be curved as well as upwardly slanted. This design allowed the maximum number of people good seats ,but primarily it focused the voices of the actors so that they would be audible. The shape of the theater, similar to that of a megaphone, would reflect their voices and make them louder. Actors would also frequently wear masks with large mouthpieces in order to amplify their voices. |
