Meet the Teachers
Christine, who teaches biology and physics, worked in the insurance business for five years before she switched to teaching. She has a one-year old child and is expecting another in two months. She is petite, energetic, well-liked by the students and staff. She has a reputation for success with struggling learners.
Sharif was a police detective before he entered teaching. In his first year of teaching social studies, he seeks out veterans for advice on teaching and handling student behavior. He often volunteers to help out with duties when others are reluctant and exhibits confidence in interactions with students.
Robert is a math teacher who retired from the military a number of years ago, where he played a highly supervisory role. He is passionate about everything, especially teaching. He speaks up at meetings when he feels the administration is performing below par and questions the status quo. He taught at another school before joining the faculty at Jackson.
Katherine is a guidance counselor who came into education via the world of business finance. She has never taught in a classroom per se, but works with students every day in counseling. She also visits classrooms to run group sessions for registration and for test interpretation. She worked in another school for before applying to Jackson. After she began to work at Jackson, she rearranged the guidance office to present a neater, more professional face to students, teachers and parents.
Nell is an earth science teacher in her second year. She came into teaching via various other jobs, mostly science. She has moved a lot because of her husband’s job. Nell is nurturing toward her students and collaborates frequently with colleagues. She uses humor to help her deal with the frustrations of working with unmotivated students and learning a new profession.
