A Network of Caring and Support

The teachers in my study described an intricate, interwoven collegial network of respect, caring, support and collaboration that motivated them not only to stay in teaching, but to remain at this particular school. While their relationships with their students were important to them, running throughout the dialog of all the teachers was the recognition that they were valued by their coworkers and had a team of supporters in their first critical years of teaching. They spoke of advice and collaboration with experienced administrators and teachers that encouraged them to stay in teaching long enough to reap the benefits of making a difference in students’ lives.
