MEDFORD, MA - March 14, 2001 - Are Mut, Nut, and Aker wide receivers, a double play combination, or ancient Egyptian gods? These deities are among the latest additions to the pantheon on CTCWeb. This week the Classics Technology Center on the Web (CTCWeb, http://ablemedia.com/ctcweb) expands its realm to encompass ancient Egypt with the publication of Ancient Egyptian Gods. "Egyptian mythology is rife with enough love triangles, fratricides, resurrections, and the rise and fall of kings to make the 'soaps' seem sedate," said Wendy E. Owens, CTCWeb Editor-in-Chief. "With the publication of Ancient Egyptian Gods, CTCWeb's editors begin an Osirisian search to build a living body of knowledge about ancient Egypt through contributions from educators and students from around the world."
Ancient Egyptian Gods includes articles on 28 Egyptian gods. Each article includes a list of the symbols associated with a god or goddess, descriptions of how the ancient Egyptians depicted gods or goddesses in their art, and an explanation of the mythology and patronage of each god or goddess. In addition, there are numerous images of various ancient Egyptian gods as well as Egyptian art and monuments. "You learn a lot about ancient Egyptian culture, history, socio-economics, and religion from each article," Owens said. "And that is only half the fun. The articles read like modern-day soap operas, only these racy characters may have bodies of men and women with the heads of crocodiles, house cats, or baboons. There is never a dull moment on CTCWeb."
