Bronzed Rules Lead to Declining Nouns on CTCWeb Dedham, MA- September 6, 2006 – If knowing the rules leads to knowledge of declining Latin nouns, then students and teachers should download Sue Shelton rule book. Shelton, a Latin teacher with the Florida Virtual High School, is this week’s AbleMedia Bronze Chalice winner for her Noun Declension PowerPoints published on the Classics Technology Center on the Web (CTCWeb, www.ablemedia.com/ctcweb). “Shelton’s presentations are lively, interactive, and allow teachers to immediately test students’ knowledge of Latin noun endings as they learn them,” said Wendy E. Owens, CTCWeb Editor-in-Chief. “We are pleased to kick off CTCWeb’s ninth year on the Internet with such a valuable set of tools for both educators and learners.” In her Noun Declension PowerPoints, Shelton uses cartoon images, sound, and animation to grab the learner’s attention and reinforce learning the Latin noun declensions. Through clear explanations, understandable examples, and questions designed to test comprehension, Shelton’s presentations clarify Latin noun declensions for students, which in turn clarifies their understanding of Latin grammar. “I am thrilled to have my work featured on the CTCWeb,” says Shelton. “I hope that they will benefit Latin teachers and students everywhere.” Shelton’s PowerPoint presentations enable teachers to engage their students in the practice the task of working with Latin nouns. In her three presentations “What Case?,” “Endings are Everything,” and “Declining a Third Declension Noun,” Shelton provides teachers with a crystal-clear guide to teaching students the golden rules of Latin noun declension. Each of Shelton’s PowerPoint presentations is available for download from CTCWeb for use in the classroom by teachers or as study guides for students new to Latin grammar. Each week AbleOne’s sponsor, AbleMedia, salutes contributors for outstanding submissions to the AbleOne Consortium (http://ablemedia.com/ctcweb/consortium/), the CTCWeb Showcase (http://ablemedia.com/ctcweb/showcase/), and CTCWeb Netshots™ (http://ablemedia.com/ctcweb/netshots.html).
